Past President
Sheriff D. Chad Jensen has dedicated 33 years to law enforcement—all with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office. A lifelong Utahn, Jensen was born in Ogden and raised in Logan, where his early exposure to public service shaped his calling. Law enforcement runs deep in his family: his father served with the Logan City Police Department, his uncle Pete Hayward was the Salt Lake County Sheriff, and his uncle Bob Hayward retired as a captain with the Utah Highway Patrol.
Jensen began his career in 1992 in the jail division, later advancing through every area of the Sheriff’s Office. He spent the majority of his career in Investigations, where his leadership and professionalism set him apart. In 1995, he became the first SWAT team member in the newly formed unit, ultimately serving 21 years and leading as SWAT Commander for a decade. His leadership experience and deep institutional knowledge prepared him for his election as Cache County Sheriff in 2015.
Since taking office, Sheriff Jensen has been a consistent voice for collaboration, officer development, and community engagement. He has served in leadership roles with the Utah Sheriffs Association since 2017, including as Secretary, President (2020–2022), Immediate Past President, and Past President. In addition, he was recently elected Chair of the Commission on Criminal & Juvenile Justice (CCJJ), where he continues to advance statewide initiatives to strengthen Utah’s public safety system.
For Sheriff Jensen, the most rewarding part of his role is the opportunity to support his team and community. He takes pride in advocating for his staff’s wellbeing—through fair wages, modern equipment, and professional growth opportunities—and in representing Cache County across Utah. He also values his partnerships with the 16 communities and school districts his office serves, where he remains a visible presence at dozens of events each year.
Outside of law enforcement, Sheriff Jensen enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, and their three adult children. Family is at the heart of his life; together, they share a love of hunting, baseball, and the outdoors. Over the years, he has coached his children’s baseball and softball teams, creating lasting memories and deep community connections. When not on duty, he can often be found outdoors, hunting, watching baseball, or tending to his lawn.
