Sheriff Mike Smith brings over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and a commitment to serving the people of Utah County. A Utah native, Smith began his career with the Pleasant Grove Police Department, where he held various roles, including patrol officer, motor officer, detective, internal affairs officer, and member of a joint criminal apprehension team with the U.S. Marshal’s Office. His leadership extended to 18 years of service on the Utah County Metro SWAT Team, where he served as Team Leader and Forward Operational Commander. Rising through the ranks, Smith became Chief of Police in Pleasant Grove in 2012.

In 2018, Smith was elected Utah County Sheriff, where he is now serving his second term. As Sheriff, he emphasizes community involvement, collaboration, and a team approach to public safety. He is passionate about ensuring that every citizen is treated with dignity and that their Constitutional rights are upheld.

Sheriff Smith’s educational background includes an associate degree in criminal justice, a bachelor’s degree in emergency management administration, and graduation from the prestigious FBI National Academy. His dedication to law enforcement is matched by his commitment to family and community. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Bren, their five children, and their grandchild. Smith also dedicates time to volunteering through his church and values the opportunity to make Utah County a safe and thriving place to live.
