Curtis began his career with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office in 1997 as a corrections deputy. He later transitioned to patrol before becoming a detective in 2004, during which time he also served as an agent with the Utah Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. In 2010, he was promoted to Chief Deputy, and in January 2011, he began serving as Sevier County Sheriff. Throughout his career, Curtis has remained committed to strengthening public safety and building upon the foundation established by those who served before him.

He served as President of the Utah Sheriffs Association from 2019 to 2020 and continues to serve on its Executive Team. He has also served on the Utah Association of Counties Executive Board, including as President from 2025 to 2026, and chairs the Utah Search and Rescue Advisory Board. His additional service includes involvement with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Utah OHV Recreation Board. Through these roles, Curtis advocates for public safety, emergency response and the needs of Utah's communities.
