Sheriff Steve Labrum

Secretary

Inspired by the legacy of his grandfather, a Vernal City officer, Sheriff Steve Labrum has committed over 29 years to law enforcement, including six years as Uintah County Sheriff. A Uintah County native, Labrum began his career while attending college in Logan, Utah. He joined the Logan City Police Department, where he worked in various capacities, including SWAT, mountain bike patrol, motor squad, and as an officer in charge of motors/bikes. After nearly a decade, he returned home to Uintah County to work for the Sheriff’s Office, driven by a desire to raise his children close to their grandparents.

Labrums’s extensive career also includes time with the Vernal City Police Department, where he served as patrol sergeant and a school resource officer. In 2019, he was elected Sheriff, enabling him to serve his community with a focus on leadership, integrity, and upholding Constitutional rights. He carries out his duties guided by the motto: "Make the right choice for the right reason."

Sheriff Labrum holds trainings in SWAT, crisis intervention, and other specialized law enforcement areas. He values the opportunity to influence his community for good and takes pride in building trust through meaningful interactions with citizens. He is always guided by his belief in making the right choice for the right reason.

Outside of work, Sheriff Labrum enjoys a fulfilling personal life with his wife of 30 years, Sonja. They share three children—Dakota, Kayson, and Boston—and two grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, Sheriff Labrum finds joy in hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and boating, particularly in the mountain settings he shares with his family. His commitment to community runs deep, reflected in his involvement coaching youth sports, promoting rodeo and 4-H activities, and serving on boards that address domestic violence, victim support, and local engagement.
